Colleen Kasten, SAC-IT

I have had a passion all my life to help others where needed. I began following this road at the age of 9 in working with others with disabilities, nursing homes, and CBRF’s. I am very active with various Autism groups and in Ozaukee County 4H.

In May 2019 I graduated with High honors/Pi Theta Kappa with ay Associates Degree in Applied Science with an emphasis in AODA and obtained my SAC-IT (Substance Abuse Counselor – In Training). My goals are to obtain my SAC and return to school to obtain my master’s in counseling.

As the AODA counselor in the Grafton location, I work with various groups in which each person is treated as an individual, with respect, in a non-judgmental atmosphere. I also work with individuals from teenagers through all ages. My approach is to not only walk side by side with the person, but to help them learn how life can be fun again without the use of any substance.

The approaches I use in working with clients are Cognitive Behavioral Theory, some Dialectic Behavioral Theory, Mindfulness, and most important compassion and understanding. In treating people with respect and as an individual, it helps them with their journey in finding who they truly are and that life has so many amazing things to offer.

The journey has just begun, there are so many roads and wonderful opportunities out there, reach for your dreams and never give up as you are in control of your own destiny.
